I have to rant. I have to voice my opinion. Who will hear me? Who will or will not agree? Does it matter? Maybe, maybe not, but I think it needs to be said.
The NFL has implemented several rules changes of late. One of them being the helmet to helmet contact. I totally understand their reasoning behind this. However, I do NOT understand the inconsistency in the implementation. Two times this evening in the Steelers-Ravens game this should have been called. Even the announcers thought so! First, Ben Roethlisberger was hit in the face causing what looked to me like a broken nose. There was BLOOD! No flag. Then, another player was hit where you could HEAR the helmets collide, see his head forced back--very scary hit!--and no flag. Really???? How many times has Harrison of the Steelers been fined for this? And, his hits were not as bad as these two. Earlier in the week, Hines Ward even commented on this. How several players quarterbacks were hit in the knee, but until Tom Brady was injured, there were no rules changes. Now, you basically can't hit the QB.
Let's make this game safe. More and more, you hear about players who are experiencing a lot of concussions. Older players (retired) are suffering from memory loss.
I love the game of football, but the dangers are getting more and more life-threatening. Let's stop this nonsense now. Before someone really gets hurt.
Sidenote:
Can you believe Peyton Manning has thrown 11 interceptions in 3 games???? WOW! It's kind of a fun bit of information.
