Sad Day....

Today is a sad day for two reasons. Two people--one nationally famous, one locally famous--left this Earthly world for a different one. Dr. B has been my general practitioner for over 10 years now. He was always happy, smiling and hummed his way around the office. In fact, you knew it was your turn to be seen when you heard his whistle right outside the door. He always greeted you with "Hello Ms. ___. How are you doing today?" He would also ask about my year and would listen to everything you said--even the crazy stuff! While reading an article in the newspaper about him today, my own opinion of him was confirmed. He was a very generous man who truly cared about his patients. This evening when I was shopping at our local big blue box, some friends and I ran into one of his employees. Even though he had been fighting a very horrible disease, his only wish was to keep his office open and running. So they did. REALLY????? He was thinking about his patients during the biggest fight of his life? I feel blessed that he felt this way as I was in his office for routine work earlier in the week. He will be deeply missed by a lot of people.

The other, more well-known person is Ron Santo--former player and broadcaster for the Chicago Cubs. He, too, was fighting a horrible illness. It was quite a shock to read about it online and then to receive 2 text messages about it. He was an inspiration to a lot of people since he lived with Type 1 Diabetes since he was 18 years old. This very disease took both of his legs as well. However, that didn't stop him.
