Monday, March 2nd is Texas Independence Day. (I'm not exactly sure, but I think it has something to do with Texas gaining it's independence from Mexico--and the battle at the Alamo has something to do with it also....Can you tell I'm not a true TEXAN?) Anyway, our history department wants all of us to dress "western, Texan, or in red/white/blue" to honor this day.
HELLO?!?!?!??!?!?!?
I have a conflict with this--just as I do with saying the Texas pledge, but that is another story for another day. Since when is Texas Independence Day a holiday??? Why does Texas think it can celebrate this day????
ISN'T TEXAS PART OF THE UNITED STATES??????????????????????
So, I proposed to a co-worker, J, that I was going to wear my "Illinois" shirt--a navy blue, long-sleeved t-shirt, with the word "Illinois" in orange letters on it. It represents the University of Illinois, but it can represent the state, too! J told me not to do it and to comply with the request--just for the sake of keeping our team's history teacher happy.
What do you--my faithful readers, who are mostly from Illinois--have to say?????
