Writing Prompt

The last hour of our school day is called Team Time. We use this time to watch ChannelOne News, read our library books, do a structured assignment (Ex. Math Monday, Science Wednesday), and to work on homework if time permits. We also use this time to enrich/reteach, have Academic Pep Rallies and other assemblies. Today was Writing Thursday. Our language teachers gave each of us a different picture with three prompts. The children were to write a persuasive, narrative or descriptive essay. To encourage them, I told them they couldn't ask me for help for 15 minutes as I wrote my own essay to the prompt. It appears below. Before anyone comments on the spelling, I CHOSE to use the British spelling of the word center--for the creativity!

After I read my essay outloud to the students, we decided we would give a copy to the two language teachers to grade--as they would in the fashion of the state test. I received a four! (The highest ranking.) AND, one of the language teachers asked if she could use it in her class to help teach the students how to write.

Not bad for a math teacher!!!!
